A leading Textile Brand Chose Reon Energy for 2×2.5 MW Refurbished Wind Turbines Project at Landhi
Wind has long been a force of progress and now, it is reshaping how industries in Pakistan meet their energy needs. A leading textile company partnered with Reon to integrate refurbished wind turbines into its energy mix, aiming to expand renewable reliance to nearly 50% while reducing fuel consumption and operational costs by up to 30–40%.
The Challenge
The project site in Karachi’s Landhi industrial zone posed significant challenges. Its proximity to Jinnah International Airport meant Civil Aviation Authority regulations capped turbine heights under 90 meters. At the same time, limited land availability and urban congestion made deploying larger turbines impractical. Adding to this, the facility’s summer demand peaks at 25–26 MW, requiring a reliable and flexible energy solution.
The Solution
Reon responded with an innovative hybrid strategy, delivering a 2×2.5, 5 MW wind project composed of two refurbished wind turbines. The refurbished wind turbines were sourced from Europe, these optimally maintained and performing turbines were disassembled, rebuilt, and optimized to comply with site restrictions while still delivering strong renewable output.
To ensure seamless performance, the wind assets were integrated with a controller and SPARKTM, the intelligent energy management platform. This enables the smooth coordination of wind, solar PV, and existing gas resources.
- During the day: Solar, wind, and the REFLEX™ battery storage system supply green and efficient power, with gas turbines running at an optimized base load.
- At night: Wind and gas take the lead, while the battery storage handles short-term fluctuations.
The Impact
The results have been transformative. The system has improved genset efficiency, reduced load-shedding events, and optimized waste heat recovery. Most importantly, the company has increased its renewable contribution significantly, lowering dependence on fossil fuels and stabilizing its energy costs.
This project highlights Reon’s innovative approach and unwavering dedication to solving complex energy challenges for its customers. Refurbished wind turbines, integrated with other renewable energy sources, represent just one of the many solutions we have deployed to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable outcomes.
In Landhi, this forward-looking strategy has unlocked a replicable model for urban industrial zones, one that is future-ready, resilient, and transformative for industrial energy solutions.
